Accommodation rating: Superior

Long Lee Manor was built in 1910 by the descendants of William Foulds, one of the early settlers from York, England. Lovingly restored and expanded, this gracious Edwardian mansion has the feel of a country manor, located in the African bush. It accommodates 42 guests in de luxe period double bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms, air conditioning, under-floor heating and / or ceiling fans. Breakfast and lunch is served in the dining room and features gourmet buffets. Dinners are served in either the dining room or around a fire by the river overlooking the hippo pool and barbecue-style meals are served in the original barn. Enjoy a game of tennis on the floodlit court, relax around one of the two swimming pools or choose from a range of massage treatments, a steam room session or jacuzzi at the spa. Early morning and evening wildlife-viewing drives in open 4x4s, as well as guided nature walks and birdwatching, are all part of this magnificent experience. Guests of Shamwari are also able to see some of the rescued animals at the Born Free Foundation Animal Rescue and Education Centre, which, over the years, has rescued several big cats from situations where they were in serious danger. Visit the museum and educational facility, which aims to create an awareness of the way wildlife is exploited in captivity around the world.
