Accommodation rating: Luxury
Located in the Sabi Sands bordering Kruger National Park, Sabi Sabi has provided one of the most luxurious safari experiences since 1979. It is a wildlife oasis, where lions, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes, elephants, cheetahs, wild dogs and 200 other animal species roam freely and it is also home to a remarkable 350 species of birds. Sabi Sabi is a one-hour flight or five-hour scenic drive from Johannesburg. Alternatively, you can fly or drive from Kruger Mpumalanga International airport.
Described a being one of the most environmentally sensitive lodges in Africa, Earth Lodge has been sculptured into the earth, making it almost invisible in the landscape. Each of its 13 suites have been individually designed and feature an en suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower, a private plunge pool and butler services. The Amber Presidential suite also has its own steam room and kitchen.
Lodge facilities include indoor and outdoor dining areas, a library, art gallery, meditation garden, underground wine cellar and the Amani Spa at Earth Lodge, which is the perfect place to rest or indulge in a rejuvenating massage treatment. Day and evening safaris following the animals on and off-road in open Land Rovers, led by highly trained game rangers and qualified trackers are available, as are walking safaris, which allow guests to get closer to the plants and animals that are often missed when traversing the area by Land Rover.
