Leeuwenbosch, originally a farm, has been occupied by the Fowlds family since 1873. It is still very much a family run establishment with the family hosting you in the beautiful house and lodge. The accommodation on Leeuwenbosch consists of the Country House and Shearers Lodge. Built in 1908 and set in its own lovely garden, the Country House is a large and beautiful home, which offers the finest in country living. Both spacious and comfortable, it has four en suite bedrooms and one suite. Shearers Lodge is surrounded by gardens and has four luxury en suite rooms, three twins and one suite. Spend cheerful evenings in the old 1832 cellar pub, or enjoy a quiet game of billiards on the full size antique table.
Amakhala Game Reserve offers a range of morning and evening safaris. You can take game drives in an open Land Rover in search of rhino, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, black wildebeest, zebra, tortoise and over 16 antelope species. Alternatively, try a night drive to seek out elusive nocturnal animals such as lynx, porcupine and spring hare. A guided walk with one of the qualified rangers is also a fascinating experience, providing the chance to move slowly through the bush and discover some of nature's minutiae. On Bushman's River, a slow cruise offers excellent bird watching with a good chance of seeing the majestic African fish eagle and three species of kingfisher, whilst a canoe trip on the river provides you with an up-close view of the tranquil riverine ecosystem.
