Amakhosi in Zulu means 'The Place of the Kings'. Amakhosi Safari Lodge is situated on the banks of the Mkuze river. Each of the six river suites has ceiling-high windows, making the most of the views out over the viewing decks and across the river. Each suite has an air-conditioned lounge, bedroom, bathroom with a bath for two, separate shower and toilet, safe, bath robes, fully stocked minibar and a tea and coffee tray. The suites are built in the shape of a Zulu shield and decorated in typical Zulu style with a colourful modern touch. There is also a honeymoon suite and a private house called IsiGodlo.
Activities include wildlife drives, guided walks and, between November to March each year when the rains come, Amakhosi invites guests to discover the fascinating world of amphibians. Night safaris with qualified guides take you deep into the bush to marvel at the spectrum of colours and the loud calling of mating frogs. Birding is also very good on the reserve, which has three breeding pairs of crowned eagles. It is also possible to take a trip to a nearby local village and experience, first hand, the rich culture and craftmanship of the Zulu.
Amakhosi also has an elegant spa which overlooks the Mkuze river. Relax to the sounds of the surrounding bush as you enjoy a treatment from one of the trained therapists.
