Sitting with a small family group of mountain gorillas is undoubtedly one of the world’s greatest wildlife experiences. On a tailor-made itinerary to Rwanda, travel to Volcanoes National Park, which is home to about 150 gorillas, as well as wild chimpanzees and a host of other primates. Trek to one of the various nearby mountain gorilla families for a mesmerising and privileged hour in their company.
You can also visit Nyungwe National Park and go trekking in search of chimpanzees and black-and-white colobus monkeys. Akagera National Park borders Tanzania and within the low-lying savannah spot lion, elephant and giraffe, among many others. Alternatively, stay on the shores of Lake Kivu and pass a few days kayaking, relaxing, or take a boat trip to visit the small lakeside villages.
