Nkwichi Lodge is located on the eastern shores of stunning Lake Niassa within the Manda Wilderness Reserve. The 600 sq km reserve is a protected area that can be explored on bush walks and overnight camping expeditions. Wildlife in the area includes leopards, elephants, buffaloes, reedbucks, rare sable antelopes and more than 300 species of birds. As there are no roads within 16km of Nkwichi, you can only reach the lodge by boat, immediately creating the feeling of remoteness and tranquillity.
Nkwichi has been designed to provide comfort and privacy and, with a maximum of 14 people staying at the lodge at any one time, guests receive the highest levels of service in a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. Each of the seven chalets is cleverly tucked away, along the lakeshore providing wonderful views across the crystal clear water. Made of local wood, stone and grass thatch, the chalets are spacious with large four-poster beds and an en suite bathroom where you can bathe outside under the tree canopy in complete privacy.
The main lodge building has a dining room raised high on a platform providing stunning views across the lake. While communal dining is encouraged, if you don't want to eat with other guests every night, there are a number of locations for dinner. One of the favourite spots is down on the beach beside the lake under the stars. Delicious produce is prepared by the chefs to provide a mixture of western recipes along with more traditional African food. With a number of exciting and interesting land and water based activities to enjoy, you'll find there's always something to do.
