This 11-night journey combines the South Luangwa National Park with a stay on Lake Malawi. In the South Luangwa, stay in Nkwali: a thatched lodge situated right on the edge of the Luangwa river. From the deck, elephants can be spotted crossing the river bed in the dry season and, in the so-called Green Season, boating and birding rules. Access to the national park is directly across the river, rather than the normal drive through the main gate.
Tena Tena, the second stop, is, by contrast, a tented bush camp, again on the edge of a river and teeming with wildlife. Danforth Lodge on Lake Malawi, with its palm-fringed golden beaches, iridescent blue water and spectacular snorkelling opportunities, is the perfect place to relax after safari. With only eight rooms, decked out in a nautical theme, this intimate accommodation has wonderful views over the lake, sweeping garden lawns and an infinity edge pool.
