Accommodation rating: Good Standard

Vakona Forest Lodge is a relatively modern property built in a privately owned patch of forest between the Andasibe and Mantadia Reserves. The main dining room, reception and lounge are in an octagonal building suspended over a lake on a wooden platform. The accommodation is in individual or double cottages built into the hillside and overlooking either the lake and main buildings, or the swimming pool. The 28 rooms are spacious and furnished with twin beds (there are only 2 doubles), cupboards, luggage racks, and bedside tables. Some have attic rooms, accessed via a spiral staircase, which can sleep children. All have en suite facilities with shower. Electricity is provided by a hydroelectric plant and hot water is always available. The hotel also has its own zoo and ‘lemur island’ where a variety of semi-tame lemurs live.
