Aberdares National Park The national park was established in 1950 and is one of Kenya’s only virgin forest reserves situated about 165 kms south west of Nairobi. The Aberdares are the third highest massif in the country, with dramatic peaks, deep valleys, spectacular waterfalls and volcanic outcrops. Nowadays the mountains are home to bongo (forest antelope), buffalo, elephant, giant forest hog, red duiker and Syke’s and colobus monkeys. At about 3,500m, where the landscape opens out, you may see lions, leopards, serval cats and bushbucks. In comparison to other national parks in Kenya the game is relatively sparse but the views in the park are spectacular
