The Akwasidae festival is celebrated by the Ashanti people to commemorate their ancestors. The Ashanti have their own traditional calendar and the Akwasidae is celebrated on the first day of every month. During the ceremony, the courtiers give gifts and the griots (storytellers) recount tales of past Ashanti royalty.
