Journey from Addis Ababa down through Ethiopia's Great Rift Valley, with stops en route at the Unesco world heritage site of Tiva, Lake Langano and Arba Minch. Birding, fascinating history and dramatic rift valley landscapes accompany the journey down. Stopping off at towns along the way and eating in good local restaurants provide an interesting insight into day-to-day Ethiopian life. The route also passes through Shashamane, home to a large Rastafarian population. From Arba Minch, home to the Dorze people, drive south to Karat-Konso, situated on the edge of the Omo valley. From here, visit an authentic Konso village before travelling west into the Omo valley to experience the Thursday market of Key Afar. The last stop on the itinerary, before Addis Ababa, is the Aregash Lodge in Yirgalem. Here, superb food and warm hospitality ease you into some welcome relaxation time.
