Eswatini holidays by Cox & Kings
Conveniently situated between South Africa and Mozambique, the Kingdom of Eswatini is often referred to as the ‘Switzerland of Africa’ as it combines mountainous grandeur and lush forests with fertile valleys and African lowveld.
It has some excellent wildlife reserves including Hlane Royal National Park, which is home to white rhino, lion and many antelope species and Mkhaya Game Reserve, where you can search for black rhino. The Ezulwini & Malkern valleys are renowned for their handicrafts and as the homeland of Swazi royalty, where traditional tribal values have always been maintained, with the distinctive national dress regularly worn by all and colourful ceremonies marking special occasions.
The country’s predominant religion is Christianity, along with ethnic beliefs and practices – the Inyanga remains a very powerful figure amongst many communities.

Go bird watching
The Hawane Nature Reserve’s main attraction is its birdlife. A trail has been established to spot birds including lanner falcons, Egyptian geese, white faced whistling ducks and rare, endemic, Swaziland red hot pokers.
Explore the Mkhaya Game Reserve
Set up to protect the endangered pure breed Nguni cattle, the reserve has expanded its scope to include many other endangered animals such as roans, tsessebe and sable antelopes, black and white rhinos and elephants.
Visit the oldest sanctuary in Swaziland
The Milwane Wildlife Sanctuary is the oldest and most visited of the Swazi parks. Situated in the Ezulwini valley, it is split into two sections – north and south – which cover a combined area of 4,560 hectares.
Discover Phophonyane Falls Nature Reserve
Wander on a network of footpaths through the 500-hectare Phophonyane Falls Nature Reserve in the Gobolondlo forest. Search for colourful birdlife, and visit the Phophonyane Falls themselves to see some of the oldest rock formations in the world – dated at 3.55 billion years old.
