Napasai, set in a grove of cashew trees on the north coast of Thailand’s Koh Samui island, is a wonderful hideaway nestled away by a beautiful beach. Here Jeremie de Fombelle, the Napasai’s General Manager, explains its appeal.

1. Tell us about the history of the hotel and surrounding area
Napasai is a blissful retreat on Koh Samui, an island just off Thailand's south east coast. Napasai is easily accessible, yet so peaceful and relaxing. Koh Samui is not only a tropical hideaway, but also a base for adventures in the jungle and out at sea. Koh Samui has lush forests, charming fishing villages, gracious people and endless swathes of golden sand.

East of Napasai, one can find one of Koh Samui's main attractions - the golden 12ft-high big Buddha, which dominates the surrounding bay and is visible for miles. Along Chaweng beach, there is much to browse and buy, with everything from craft stalls to designer shops. This is also where you will find the island's nightlife and many its best restaurants.

2. What sets your hotel apart from other hotels in the region?
Napasai has a large private sandy beach with individual villas and Private Pool Residences with dramatic views of the ocean, green forests and faraway horizons.

3. Tell us something unique about your hotel
Napasai has a large private sandy beach with individual villas, dramatic views of the ocean and direct access to the sea. In addition, Napasai is managed locally and to the highest standards by staff who regard it as their own. It is a palce where guests will find each stay an enriching experience and have  the opportunity to discover more about the thai culture around them. Napasai is also highly committed to having a positive impact on local communities.

4. What is your favourite thing about working at the hotel?
My favourite thing about working in Napasai is the daily interaction with our terrific staff. They are all very professional and at the same time exceptionally friendly and courteous. They care so much for what they are doing. Such attitude is very hard to find elsewhere in the world, especially in Europe.

5. Tell us about your chef's speciality dish
Here are a few examples of the Chef's speciality dishes. The Carpaccio and pan-fried duck liver, balsamic reduction. Followed by Chu Chi Hoy Shell, Pan fried sea scallops, sauted vegetables, spiced with Thai basil. And for desert there is the Crunchy Feuillantine with iced raspberries and lemon sorbet, red fruit coulis.

6. What are the most popular activities for your guests?
There are many activities which guests could enjoy such as Kayaking, snorkelling and scuba sessions, boat tour round the island cruises diving especiall at Ang thong Marine parks where offers excellent diving from immaculate and tranquil coves.

7. Have any particularly interesting or well-known guests stayed at your hotel?
Napasai have many opportunities to welcome famous guests around the world, however, for their privacy, we do not allow mentioning our guests name.

8. Do you personally have a favourite time of year at the hotel?
Personally, my favourite time of the year at Napasai is October and November. Although Koh Samui is welcoming at any time of the year even at the monsoon season. There are many sunny days and I particularly enjoy the refreshing monsoon showers that most of the time only last for a moment and then the sky clears up again.
