Highlights of Hangzhou The magic of China

Far East expert Gemma Williams recommends a few of the most interesting  things to do in Hangzhou.

After just 24 hours in Shanghai we caught the bullet train to Hangzhou, travelling 150km in just 45 minutes. The trains are comfortable and the seats spacious. It is an excellent way to travel missing all of the Shanghai traffic.

Hangzhou is a city famous for the stunning West Lake. The West Lake is surrounded by hills, with many walking paths around the lake to small inlets, ponds and gardens.

A boat tour around the lake is a great way to see the lake and the impressive Twin Peaks embracing the sky. To the South Centre of the lake, is a man made island known as the Island of Oceans, that encloses four small lakes.

A must do in Hangzhou is the Impression West Lake, which is a fantastic light and sound show on the Lake. The setting is spectacular and the dancers, colours and lights are amazing.

Lingyin Temple is one of the Oldest Buddhist temples in South China, located to the West of West Lake. The many halls of the temple are beautifully decorated with painted walls and ceilings.
