Our top 3 Family Adventures ... in the Middle East

| March 1, 2018

Family holidays are all about creating memories and we believe the best memories come from getting out in the world and exploring. Cox & Kings has designed a collection of suggested itineraries to help inspire your next adventure. With predictable weather and short flying times, the Middle East offers exciting experiences in places with fascinating histories and spectacular scenery.

With Roman cities, crusader castles and biblical sites, Jordan is packed with history and culture. Children will love floating in the salty Dead Sea, famed for its curative properties, as well as exploring Jerash, a well-preserved Graeco-Roman city where they can walk along original colonnaded streets and stand in the centre of the Hippodrome where chariot racing once took place. In Petra, we recommend walking through the Siq at night when it’s illuminated by candlelight and joining a cooking lesson at Petra Kitchen where you can eat what you’ve made afterwards. Don’t forget to pack a torch so you can explore the underground passageways in Kerak and Shobak crusader castles.

Jordan Family Adventure includes visits to some of the remains of the world’s greatest civilisations along with active adventure in the mountains and the desert landscapes of Wadi Rum. Finish with some relaxation on the Red Sea coast.

The Sultanate of Oman has lots to offer for a family holiday. From dolphin watching in the Gulf of Oman to 4x4 drives and quad biking in Sharqiya Sands, there are activities to suit children – and adults – of all ages. We recommend an overnight stay in a desert camp, where, after exploring the desert on camel rides, sand boards and quad bikes by day, you can sit around a campfire at night and marvel at the incredible starlit sky. For nature-lovers, spend a night at Ras Al Jinz Scientific and Visitor Centre to see the green turtle nesting spots. May to September is the best time to see hatchlings.

Oman Family Explorer includes time on the beach in Muscat as well as accommodation in the mountains, desert and on the coast to fully explore the best of Oman.

Offering desert, mountain and coast as well as bustling cities, vibrant markets and plenty of culture, Morocco is an ideal destination for families. Just a three-hour flight from the UK and with no jet lag, you can start your adventure the minute you step off the plane. A walk through the souks that lead off Marrakech’s main square – the Djemaa el-Fna – will excite and fascinate children. Continue with a camel ride along the Atlantic coastline, zip lining in the foothills of the Atlas mountains and learning how to cook using a clay tagine under the watchful eye of a local Berber lady.

Morocco Family Adventure is a new suggested holiday combining the exotic city of Marrakech, with the Atlantic coast and Atlas mountains.
