Things to do in Serbia

Things to do in Serbia include visiting the capital of Belgrade and the second city of Novi Sad, seeing the Ottoman sights in Nis, and discovering medieval monasteries.

Belgrade, meaning white city, lies at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers. An architectural mix of grandiose buildings and Soviet-style blocks, visitors will find examples of Serbian neo-classicism, art nouveau and neo-Byzantine masterpieces of civic and sacred art.

Novi Sad was founded in 1694, and today is overlooked by the impressive Petrovaradin Fortress, while locals roam the pretty parks and chat at local cafes.

Scattered around the country are the picturesque medieval monasteries of Studenica, Sopocani and Manasija; each built in a different century – the 12th, 13th and 14th respectively. These Unesco world heritage sights, remain the keepers of Serbian faith and Byzantine art.
