Things to do in Romania

Romania lies on the Black Sea coast of south-eastern Europe. Best known, perhaps, for being home to Count Dracula, the country in fact has a lot more to offer than fictive fame.

The renowned painted monasteries of Humor, Voronet and Sucevita in the north are among Romania’s most magnificent cultural treasures and require a full-day’s touring to fully appreciate their frescoes.

The towns of Brasov and Sibiu are centred on medieval squares hardly touched by time, while Sighisoara, located close to Brasov, is an excellent example of a medieval village with its walls and watchtowers still intact.

Romania’s capital, Bucharest was designed by French architects, which is reflected in the Parisian-style tree-lined boulevards and fin de siècle architecture. The city’s colossal Palace of Parliament is the world’s third largest building.
