Things to do in Lebanon

Things to do in Lebanon range from visiting the glamorous capital to exploring historic ruins, enjoying delectable cuisine and exploring pretty fishing villages.

Beirut, a city with a venerable past, has a sense of life and energy that is immediately apparent to the visitor. Many of the beautiful old buildings are being restored to their former glory and, where Roman columns and other artefacts have been discovered, new excavations have begun. Beirut has some interesting museums, including the National Museum, and the Archaeological Museum of the American University.

Lebanon’s real showpiece is the spectacular ruins at Baalbeck. The site isn’t as large as Palmyra in Syria, or Jerash in Jordan, but the ruins are far more intact and there are almost no visitors. The temple of Bacchus is larger than the Parthenon and the 6 remaining columns of the Temple of Jupiter are the tallest in the world.

For those with more time, there are traditional towns, mountains, Cedar valleys and beaches that will easily have you wanting to stay longer.
