Things to do in Bosnia-Herzegovina

The country is rich in historical sites due to the numerous countries which have governed the region over the centuries. Scars of the recent conflict remain with bullet-marked buildings and ruined areas, but much has been brought back to life and the restoration work continues.

The capital, Sarajevo, has a lovely setting over hills with red-roofed houses and pretty minarets which graze the skyline. There is an excellent Ottoman quarter to visit here.

Further south is the rather magical town of Mostar, the cultural capital of the Herzegovina region and famous for its reconstructed Ottoman bridge – the Stari Most. Mostar was once the front line of fighting during the Bosnian war.
