Latin America ... group tours with a difference
It’s easy to associate group tour holidays with a compromise on luxury and mainstream experiences, but take a look at our Latin America 2020-2021 collection and you’ll find that this doesn’t have to be the case. Read on to find out what sets our group tours apart.
Travelling in a luxury sleeper train across the magnificent Peruvian altiplano might not be an experience that you would associate with a group tour holiday, yet we offer it on both our Train to Machu Picchu and Grand Tour of South America. There is truly no better way to admire the remote high Andean scenery than aboard the oh-so plush Belmond Andean Explorer.

Wake up to magnificent views from your cosy cabin with further opportunities to admire the landscape from the observation car. Savour Peruvian delicacies in the dining car and socialise with new-found friends over a pisco sour in the lounge car, set to the sounds of live music from the grand piano. If you’re still not totally relaxed then there’s still the spa car!

This is just one example of some of the signature experiences that have been incorporated into our group tours for the coming year. For those interested in a private, tailor-made itinerary, our new brochure also provides inspirational pages on our recommended experiences in each destination – authentic experiences that will bring you into closer contact with the people, wildlife and landscapes.
Group tour accommodation is all too often in unremarkable hotels in even more unremarkable locations. But a hotel shouldn’t be somewhere simply to put your head down for the night; part of the excitement of travel is waking up to spectacular views with almost immediate access to the extraordinary sights that you have travelled so far to see.
Take, for example, the exceptional archaeological site of Machu Picchu in Peru. You’ll want to waste no time in exploring the fascinating ruins, not to mention time to simply sit and soak up the atmosphere of this mountain eyrie. With this in mind, all our group tours to Machu Picchu are accommodated in characterful lodgings that are close to the site, making it easy to re-visit for further exploration the next day.

Stay in Andean cottages hidden away amid orchid gardens at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, enjoy more contemporary comfort at El Mapi Hotel or upgrade to the superior surroundings of Sumaq Machu Picchu.

Equally, our group tours to Iguaҫu Falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil benefit from a superior stay at the Belmond Hotel das Cataratas. This is the only hotel located within the Brazilian side of the park, meaning privileged guest access to the rainforest and waterfalls in the early morning or late evening, when only the hum of the birds is audible rather than the buzz of billions of tourists.

When it comes to scenery, you won’t want to be parted from that of the spectacular craggy peaks and glacial lakes of Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, which is why our group tours here stay at the remote but comfortable Hotel Lago Grey on the shores of Lake Grey. All our clients stay in Superior rooms with a glacier view through large panoramic windows.

Finally, any busy group tour should ideally end with a beach stay. Our group tours finishing in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil all enjoy a two- to three-night stay at the Belmond Copacabana Palace, occupying a privileged central location on Rio’s world-renowned Copacabana beach. We make sure to secure rooms with a partial ocean view, with the option to upgrade to a Deluxe oceanfront room if you wish.

The sights and cultural experiences are inevitably the main highlight for most people travelling on a group tour, but a little pampering doesn’t go amiss either, especially on a multi-country itinerary when you might be travelling for up to 18 days. Without dramatically upping our prices (indeed, in many cases prices have remained the same) we’ve managed to slip some exceptionally lavish properties into our multi-country group tours.
The upmarket Alvear Art provides a sleek and stylish backdrop to a stay in Buenos Aires, Argentina with a spa and fitness centre affording spectacular city views from their top floor location.

Stay at the landmark Belmond Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a sumptuous hotel right on Copacabana beachfront that has long been the haunt of the rich and famous. A Michelin-starred restaurant, indulgent spa, private pool and rooms with ocean and beach views all make for a glamorous stay.

Also part of the eminent Belmond brand, the colonial-style Belmond das Cataratas is located within Iguaҫu National Park on the Brazilian side of the celebrated falls, with privileged access to the thundering waters once the crowds have dispersed. Despite this, you might find yourself happily drawn to the lavish facilities and tropical gardens of this beautifully restored, marshmallow-pink mansion.
