Trip of a lifetime Colours of Peru
In summer 2013, we ran a photography competition with the chance to win a luxury holiday with Cox & Kings to Peru.
Nick Board was the lucky winner, with his image of a trapped bullfighter in the famous Madrid bullring of Las Ventas. He recently returned from his travels to Peru and wrote an email to tell us all about it.
I have recently returned from Peru after winning your Colours of Peru, photo competition. Thank you so much!
Since day one – from gathering information and booking with Cox & Kings’ Roop Kumar, to finally leaving Cuzco on the last day and flying home – nothing was too much trouble. Cox & King’s comprehensive and peerless ability shone through on each and every day of an unforgettable journey through Peru.
Our local guides and drivers to each particular location were top notch, and our tour leader, Celestino, was the best I have ever seen (having seen a few down the years). Each and every member of our group’s welfare was paramount, from supplying water to negotiating any minor difficulties that altitude presented.
Every hotel from Lima to Aqua Calientes had a prime location and each proved excellent in their differing ways. I have also developed a penchant for Alpaca steak, although perhaps not so much for cuy (a local delicacy of roasted guinea pig).
I have never been to South America before, but Peru has had an impact on me like no other country I have visited. It was the landscape and the sights and history, but most of all it was the people’s welcome, humour, sincerity, and sense of community everywhere we went.
Hopefully I have taken some decent photos, although I know in my heart I could never do the place justice.
Many thanks to Nick Board for taking the time to share his comments.
