Luxury Private Tour in brief

Day 1: Fly to Antananarivo via Paris

Overnight flight to Antananarivo, via Paris. Transfer to Le Royal Palissandre for a 2-night stay. (N)

Day 2: Antananarivo

Morning city tour including the hills of the royal palaces and the botanical and zoological garden of Tsimbazaza. Transfer to the Lemur Park for lunch. In the afternoon enjoy spotting nine different species of lemur. These lemurs are freeroaming and have been rehabilitated from injury for reintroduction into the wild. (L, D)

Day 3: Fly to Anjajavy peninsula

Scheduled charter flight to the Anjajavy peninsula. Stay 5 nights at Anjajavy Le Lodge (family bungalow). The lodge offers a variety of activities including walks in indigenous dry deciduous forest, tsingy (limestone pinnacles) and limestone caves; kayaking through mangroves; relaxation on pristine beaches with private picnics; world-class fishing; and a variety of water-based activities such as boat excursions, water skiing, windsurfing and snorkelling. Days 4-7: Anjajavy peninsula

Day 8: Fly to Antananarivo • Andasibe • Analamazaotra Reserve

Scheduled charter flight to Antananarivo. Transfer to Andasibe National Park and spend 2 nights at Vakona Lodge (family villa). Afternoon introductory walk in Andasibe rainforest, home to the largest living lemurs, the indri. After dinner, take a night walk in Analamazaotra Reserve to spot nocturnal lemur species. Welcome drinks reception before dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Mantadia National Park • Analamazaotra Reserve

Full-day walk through the primary forest of Mantadia National Park. The beautiful scenery is home to the black- and white-ruffed lemur, the diademed sifaka, Parson’s chameleon and a wide variety of frogs. After dinner, take a second night walk in Analamazaotra Reserve. (B, L, D)

Day 10: Andasibe • Lemur Island • Antananarivo

Morning walk in Andasibe. Return to the lodge for lunch. Visit Lemur Island in Vakona Private Reserve. Drive back to Antananarivo. Dinner and day room at Le Relais des Plateaux. (B, L, D)

Day 11: Fly home via Paris

Very early flight home, via Paris. (N)

  • Vakona Forest Lodge
    Vakona Forest Lodge

    Vakona Forest Lodge is a relatively modern property built in a privately owned patch of forest between the Andasibe and Mantadia Reserves. The main dining room, reception and lounge are in an octagonal building suspended over a lake on a wooden platform. The accommodation is in individual or double cottages built into the hillside and overlooking either the lake and main buildings, or the swimming pool. The 28 rooms are spacious and furnished with twin beds (there are only 2 doubles), cupboards, luggage racks, and bedside tables. Some have attic rooms, accessed via a spiral staircase, which can sleep children. All have en suite facilities with shower. Electricity is provided by a hydroelectric plant and hot water is always available. The hotel also has its own zoo and 'lemur island' where a variety of semi-tame lemurs live.

    This small, elegant hotel of only 46 rooms, takes its name from the Palissander tree, wood from which has been used to furnish the property, creating a feeling of warmth. The rooms are simply but stylishly furnished, featuring local handicrafts in order to give the property a uniquely Malagasy feel. Located on a hillside, many of the rooms offer views over the city, as does the restaurant which also has an outdoor terrace.

    Owned by Relais & Chateaux, the Anjajavy Hotel consists of 25 rosewood villas overlooking the beautiful beaches and bay. Each villa features a large terrace looking out to the sea, a living room area, a breakfast area and a bedroom. A small staircase provides access to the first floor which features a relaxation room. The bathroom has a vast bath with separate lavatory. Each room is maintained at the ideal temperature by an individual and silent air conditioning system. There is an outdoor swimming pool and a range of activities for including hiking and fishing. Alternatively, you can relax and enjoy something created by the chef from an international menu of fresh produce or selected Malagasy specialties.
