The Gora Hanaougi is a relaxing retreat in the Gora area of Hakone National Park. Opened in May 2009, the ryokan is a fusion of traditional Japanese style with a few modern touches. All rooms have an outdoor hot spring bath ('rotenburo') and there are also two communal open-air baths for guests to enjoy. Meals are prepared using seasonal local produce by a top chef who has trained in some of the best restaurants in Kyoto. These will be served to you in your own private dining room. The ryokan is located in the Gora area of the national park, which is a handy location for access to popular museums and sightseeing routes. The ryokan is only a few hundred metres from the Tozan cablecar station, which will take you up to Owakudani, a steaming volcanic valley from where Hakone sources most of its hot spring waters. From there you can take the Hakone Ropeway down to Lake Ashi and take a cruise across the lake, which also offers spectacular views of Mount Fuji if the weather is clear.
