Divan's Bungalow, tucked away behind high walls in the midst of the bustling old town of Ahmedabad, still retains the air of a grand family home. Originally the private residence of the Prime Minister of the princely state of Radhanpur, in northern Gujarat, the mansion, designed by an English architect has a striking colonial facade. More recently, this was the family home of a renowned Mumbai based architect I M Kadri; who in partnership with Neemrana hotels has sympathetically converted it into an intimate heritage hotel. Spread over two floors, the eight rooms are of varying sizes, individually decorated, simply furnished and retain much of their old-world charm and grace. Breakfast is usually served in the lush inner courtyard, but there is also a graceful dining room with chandeliers and curios where meals are taken together with other guests. The household has a separate kitchen for vegetarians. While guests have a choice, the cuisine is predominantly Indian for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. For those who require special meals this can usually be arranged with advance notice. This hotel does not have a pool or a bar, but this is more than compensated for by the atmosphere and the charm.
