Visit Lapu-Lapu shrine, a bronze statue erected in honour of a native leader of the same name who led a rebellion against the Spanish; Magellan's Cross, made of local Tindalo wood planted by Portuguese sailor Ferdinand Magellan in 1521; and the Basílica Minore del Santo Niño (Church of the Holy Child), the oldest church in the Philippines that was founded in the 16th century. Drive through the busy Carbon market and affluent residential districts known locally as 'Beverly Hills' and visit the Cebu Taoist temple, an ornate and colourful structure built by the local Chinese community. The craft shops of Cebu are an excellent place to pick up locally made souvenirs, such as abaca and raffia rugs, fiber cloth, capiz ware (made from shells) and embroidered cotton table linen.
