Half-day Zulu village visit (private excursion)

| May 15, 2020

The area around the KwaZulu Natal battlefields is rich in Zulu culture. A member of staff from Isandlwana Lodge will take you to visit a family ikhaya (home) where you will be greeted by members of the family and shown around their individual izindlu (houses). It is also possible to visit the local clinic, the historic St Vincent’s Church (Anglican) or one of the local schools where you can see the students at work in their classrooms or maybe have the opportunity to watch them singing and dancing. Their performances are based on stories that have been handed down to them by their parents or grandparents and each song or dance relates to a historical event or a part of the Zulu way of life. Continue to a local sangoma (diviner) who is trained to determine ailments, amongst other things, and who works alongside an inyanga (herbal doctor) who diagnoses and produces medicines or cures. The sangoma can also foresee or predict events.
