FD tour of Samosir Island (shared excursion)

| May 15, 2020

Reached by a cruise on Lake Toba, Samosir Island is an important centre for traditional Batak culture. At the village of Simanindo at the north of the island there are many well preserved Batak Toba traditional houses; one of the most prominent is that of King Sidauruk, which is now a museum. There is also the chance to see a Toba Batak folk dance performed by the villagers. Ambarita village is an important historical site that is thought to be the 'Hall of Justice' used during the reign of King Siallagan, where the condemned would be executed in an adjacent clearing marked by chairs carved from stone. In the east of Samosir island is Tomok village, home to one of the island's most famous sights, a 200-year-old boat shaped sarcophagus of King Sidabutar, surrounded by smaller sarcophagi of his descendants.
