Wander through Alsisar village, marveling at the painted havelis. Between 1830 and 1930, Marwaris erected these magnificent mansions in true Mughal style. They are especially noted for their colourful frescoes depicting images of gods, animals and the life stories of Lords Krishna and Rama. These status symbols secluded their owners from the outside world and surrounding arid desert behind a large gate. Inside, two courtyards separated the domains of the men and women of the household.
