Boat Safari on the Chobe River

| May 15, 2020

At Kasane, many of the lodges offer boat cruises on the Chobe river, a chance to relax and spot much of the wildlife that use the river as their water source.  The river has a high concentration of bird species that you may see from the boat, including elusive African finfoots and regal African fisheagles. From the comfort of the boat deck you can watch elephants and other mammals interact at the water's edge, cautious of the predators waiting for their opportunity. Cruises can be enjoyed morning and afternoon but the latter tend to be extra special as you can watch the African sunset over the river whilst enjoying a ‘sundowner’ drink. Some lodges also tailor the cruises specifically to photography enthusiasts by offering specialised boats featuring 360-degree swivel chairs and a top deck providing a vantage point over the river.
