Afternoon tour of Batu Cermin Cave
The Batu Cermin caves are five kilometers from Labuan Bajo, set in thick forest that is inhabited by long-tailed monkeys and wild boar. The cave is reached by a ladder walkway before passing through a series of smaller chambers leading to the main cave. Large, long and narrow, the main cavern measures 75 metres long by five metres high, and contains stalactites, stalagmites and a colony of bats. Batu Cermin means 'mirror cave', so-called because sunlight reflects off its stone walls like a mirror. If you visit late in the afternoon, it is worth proceeding to the nearby viewpoint at Puncak Waringin to enjoy the sunset over Bajo Bay.
