Day 1 To Shanghai: Overnight flight from London to Shanghai with British Airways. (N)

Day 2 Shanghai: Arrive and transfer to the Central Hotel for 2 nights. (N)

Day 3 Wuzhen: Full day tour of the scenic water town of Wuzhen, visiting the former residence of Mao Dun, a well-known Chinese revolutionary writer, Fanglu Pavilion and Bridge in Bridge, with a boat ride along the canal. (B, L)

Day 4 To Huang Shan: Tour of the Shanghai Museum, Yu Yuan Gardens, Xintiandi and the Bund with a cruise on the Huang Pu River. Evening flight to Tunxi for Huang Shan City. Stay at the Huashan Hotel for 1 night. (B)

Day 5 Huang Shan: Morning cable car ride up Huang Shan, the Yellow Mountain, one of China’s most sacred mountains. Take a walking tour of this scenic area and stay overnight at the Beihai Hotel at the summit of the mountain. (B, L, D)

Day 6 Huang Shan: Rise early to see the sunrise at the summit of Huang Shan. After breakfast, descend the mountain and visit the picturesque ancient villages of Hong Cun and Xi Di. Return to Huang Shan City and stay at the Huashan Hotel for 1 night. Take a walking tour of Tunxi Old Street, lined with tea and calligraphy shops. (B, L)

Day 7 To Chengdu: Drive to Hangzhou this morning and fly to Chengdu. Stay at the Jin Jiang Hotel for 2 nights. (B)

Day 8 Chengdu: Morning visit to the Giant Panda Research Centre and the old houses along Wenshu Fang, where you can sample Chengdu’s snacks for lunch. Afternoon visit to Wangjiang Lou Park and end the day relaxing at the teahouse in the People's Park. (B, L)

Day 9 To Jiuzhaigou: Fly to Jiuzhaigou and visit Songpan Old City, including the City Wall and Guanyin Temple. Transfer to the InterContinental Resort Jiuzhai Paradise for 2 nights. (B, L, D)

Day 10 Jiuzhaigou: Full day excursion to explore Jiuzhaigou’s scenic lakes and alpine forests. (B, L, D)

Day 11 To Xian: Fly to Xian and transfer to the Bell Tower Hotel for 2 nights. Afternoon tour of Xian’s old city and the Wild Goose Pagoda. (B)

Day 12 Terracotta Warriors: Full day tour of the Terracotta Warriors and Shaanxi Museum. (B, L)

Day 13 To Beijing: Fly to Beijing and stay at the Novotel Peace Hotel for 2 nights. Afternoon tour of the Imperial Summer Palace. (B)

Day 14 Beijing: Morning visit to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, and take a pedicab tour of the hutong (back streets). Afternoon visit to the Temple of Heaven and the Olympic Green (entrance to the venue is not included). (B, L)

Day 15 Great Wall: Take a full day tour of the Great Wall at Jinshanling Pass, a relatively quiet and dramatic section of the wall. (B, L)

Day 16 To London: Transfer to the airport and fly to London. (B)

Discovery Tour: Whilst a journey through Huang Shan and Jiuzhaigou is an unforgettable experience, accommodation outside the main cities is simple. Hotels on this tour have been chosen for their location, and all have private facilities. The tour involves some long walks and climbing steps, and therefore requires a good level of fitness. Your guide will be able to advise you of the best routes to see the highlights.
