Galapagos Islands: Eclipse

A visit to the remarkable Galapagos Islands provides a special opportunity to observe wildlife at extremely close quarters. See giant tortoises and a number of indigenous bird species, and swim with sea lions, penguins and perhaps even a sea turtle. This itinerary also includes a 2-night stay in Ecuador's capital, Quito, where you can explore the city.

The Eclipse is an elegant medium-sized cruise vessel that accommodates 48 passengers in 26 outside cabins. The cruise has spacious outside areas. Facilities include a dining room, lounge, library / video room, alfresco dining area, indoor and outdoor bar, sun deck, jacuzzi and observation deck.

Day 1 - To Quito:  Fly to Quito, via Madrid, with Iberia. Stay 2 nights at the Hilton Colon. (N)

Days 2 - Quito:  Morning tour of the old colonial centre of Quito, followed by a visit to the Middle of the World, the equatorial line monument. It is possible to extend your stay and visit the Otavalo region in the highlands or the Avenue of the Volcanoes. Please inquire for details. (B)

Day 3 - To the Galapagos:  Transfer to the airport and fly to San Cristobal in the Galapagos Islands, where you will board the Eclipse for a 4-night cruise. Also available are 5, 7 and 11-night cruises. In the afternoon, visit North Seymour Island. (B, L, D)

Days 4-6 - The Galapagos:  Shared excursions to the following islands with a naturalist guide: Santa Cruz - Black Turtle Cove & Charles Darwin Station; Rabida; Santiago - Puerto Egas; Isabela - Tagus Cove, Urbina Bay & Punta Vicente Roca; Fernandina - Punta Espinoza. (B, L, D)

Day 7 - To London:  Disembark the cruise and fly from Baltra to Guayaquil. Connect with a flight to London, via Madrid. Alternatively, break your journey with an overnight stay in Guayaquil and take a short city tour on the following day. (B)

Day 8- London:  Afternoon arrival. (N)

Note:  The above itinerary is based on a Thursday departure from the UK to fit in with a Saturday sailing (every other week) on the Eclipse. Prices, based on two people travelling and sharing a twin-room, are intended as a guideline only and will vary according to time of year. This is a suggested itinerary, which can be further tailored to suit your individual needs.
