South African resorts thriving
29 Jun 2015
The renowned Kruger National Park had a big say as almost 2,500 extra tourists flocked to South Africa's Limpopo wildlife resorts in December compared to the same period in 2011.
The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) this week revealed the resorts attracted a total of 56,141 visitors, 2,431 up on the previous year. LTA spokesperson Mike Tauatsoala said there was also an indication of a rise in occupancy rates, which could be put down to seasonal and sustained marketing campaigns, aimed at promoting Safari holidays. The organisation was encouraged by the volume of local tourists visiting the resorts.
LTA chief executive officer Nocks Seabi was keen to express his gratitude to the service sector for its professionalism, and added: "The level of service rendered to the tourists will definitely ensure repeated visits to the province in general and facilities in particular, thereby contributing to the economic growth of the province."
LTA chiefs recently visited a number of resorts and other important destinations in the province to monitor tourist influx while engaging with visitors.
Mr Tauatsoala said: "I must indicate that most of the tourists interviewed expressed satisfaction with the level of service received at most of the tourism facilities in the province."
