Overview
The capital city of Muscat lays between the rugged Hajar Mountains and the coast. The districts of Mutrah and Muscat offer visitors a glimpse of authentic Arabia, with bustling waterfronts and alleyways. Mutrah's markets and souk's are a great place to soak up the atmosphere, while the Bait Al Zubair museum is an excellent place to learn about Omani culture.

What to see

MUSCAT
There are several luxury hotels to choose from in Muscat. For those seeking an elegant, stylish atmosphere, our preferred choice would be The Chedi, a sophisticated beach resort and spa. Perfect for families, the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa is located in a bay on a stretch of private sandy beach, and comprises three hotels.

Its leisure facilities include 6,000 square metres of swimming pool, spa and children’s club. Our final recommendation would be the Al Bustan Palace, which has a dramatic location between the white sands of the Gulf of Oman and the towering crags of the Hajar Mountains. Having undergone recent renovation, the hotel is one of the region’s most luxurious properties and offers impeccable standards of service.

When to go
Oman is normally sunny year round. Most people travel during the British winter, between October and April, when the temperature in Oman ranges between 24 º and 35 ºC. January and February are the coolest months.

Ramadan is the holy month of fasting for all Muslims. It typically begins on 22 August and finishes on 21 September (depending on the phases of the moon). Muslims abstain from eating, drinking and smoking in public places between sunrise and sunset.
No alcohol will typically be served in hotels and restaurants (although exceptions are sometimes made for room service and mini-bars) and tourists are requested to refrain from eating, drinking and smoking in public places (including hotel swimming pools and beaches). Some tours do not run during this period.
