Israel & The OPT: Crusaders in the Holy Land

03 - 10 November 2013
8 Days / 7 Nights from £1975
Jerusalem had a magnetic attraction for medieval Christians, who were drawn to visit the places where Jesus had lived and died. In 1099, an unprecedented expedition - the First Crusade - captured Jerusalem and established a kingdom that endured for nearly 90 years. The first part of our tour is centred on Jerusalem and its holy places. After Saladin’s recapture of Jerusalem in 1187, Acre became the capital of the much reduced kingdom until the settlers were . nally driven from the Holy Land in 1291, and so the latter part of our visit explores Acre and the later history of crusader settlement.
  • An archaeological tour, rather than a pilgrimage, that follows the path of the crusades
  • Spend 3 nights in Jerusalem, revered by three world faiths
  • Exclusive talk by a leading crusader archaeologist at Montfort Castle
  • Visit Acre, the maritime capital of the crusaders
  • Exclusive access to the roof of the Holy Sepulchre, by special arrangement for this tour only

Day 5 – To Acre: Today, journey westward to Mount Tabor, the site of numerous historic battles and skirmishes from the sixth century BC to the 20th century.
