Holidaymakers looking for a safe and fun holiday in Southeast Asia should look no further than Thailand, which has just been voted the best destination in the region, according to a new survey.
Of the 686 travellers questioned while holidaying in Bangkok, almost 60 per cent voted Thailand as their favourite destination, while almost all said they felt safe while travelling around the country and only 2.4 per cent said they weren't convinced.
Researchers at Bangkok University, which carried out the study, found tourists from Vietnam were most likely to choose Thailand as their preferred destination, with 34.1 per cent, while holidaymakers from Cambodia made up 30.6 per cent.
Traffic and taxi fares were two of the most common complaints made by tourists, according to the study, which also revealed more than 96 per cent of respondents would recommend friends and family visit Thailand.
Thailand, which is popular for honeymooners and retirees, has been named fourth top destination by respected industry magazine, Conde Nast Traveller, while also taking the award for Most Popular Destination at the International Tourism Exchange Berlin, last year.
