Arunachal Pradesh scoops accolade

18 Jan 2013

A state in north-east India has been voted the favourite upcoming destination by readers of a travel magazine.

Arunachal Pradesh, which covers a large part of the eastern Himalayas and has a rich diversity of wildlife, flora and fauna, received the accolade from Outlook Traveller following an Ipsos poll of readers through the Indian magazine and its website.

People who took part in the survey gave their preferences in travel and tourism across 18 categories, including hotels, airlines and holiday destinations. The award will be presented to the tourism department in New Delhi on January 24.

Arunachal Pradesh is currently showcasing its vast tourism potential, cultural heritage and lifestyle of its people at the three-day International Tourism Mart in Guwahati, which is the first such global event being hosted by the government of India, especially to promote the North East Region (NER), which has huge tourism potential.

A six-member official delegation led by parliamentary secretary for tourism PD Sona is representing Arunachal Pradesh at the event.
