The cayes off the coast of Belize are perfect for snorkeling, sea fishing, canoeing or just relaxing and sunbathing. One of the most famous is Ambergris Caye, where Cox & Kings offers the stunning Victoria House. This pretty region is very unspoilt.
The most spectacular Mayan ruins are found in Western Belize, at Caracol, Xunantunich and Cahal Pech. All of these are best visited from the town of San Ignacio in the Cayo District, which is 68 miles from Belize City. Southern Belize is the most remote part of the country, and despite poor roads, is well worth visiting. In addition to the beautiful beaches of Hopkins and Placencia, the Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Sanctuary offers some of the the best chances of seeing this big cat in the wild.
