This 5-star fly safari around Southern Tanzania visits two of the country’s most beautiful wildlife areas. Begin in the Selous Game Reserve where the Great Rufiji river provides a tropical ambience as you drift past pods of hippos and huge numbers of crocodiles. A healthy population of wild dog and more than 450 bird species are also notable in this area. Continue on to the Ruaha National Park, which is higher and more mountainous than the Selous. The elephants here are particularly relaxed and other wildlife highlights include lions, leopards and wild dogs. End your safari on the Swahili Coast, where a fresh sea breeze, delicious freshly-caught local fish and a chance to laze by the pool or beach, provides a suitable antidote to your time in the bush.
“An alfresco lunch while watching elephants browse along the dry river bed, a pack of wild dogs running through camp early morning and a brilliantly informative walk listening to the story of a termite mound all contributed to making my stay at Jongomero really unique. The camp is further south than most and so the wildlife viewing is more exclusive. I had my best ever bat-eared fox sighting and got some excellent hippo and black-backed jackal photographs”.

“Ras Kutani is situated on a quiet stretch of deserted coastline. A stone’s throw away from Dar es Salaam, this charming lodge has an understated and relaxed style. I enjoyed lazing in the hammock on my balcony, which has a lovely view of the Indian Ocean. Walking along the beach at sunset, snorkelling over a small wreck and indulging in a full body massage were among the highlights”.
