Day 1 – To Colombo: Fly overnight to
Colombo, with Sri Lankan Airlines. (N)
Day 2 – Colombo: Morning arrival and transfer
to the stylish Park Street Hotel in the heart of
Colombo for 1 night. (N)
Day 3 – To Sigiriya: Morning transfer to Sigiriya,
stopping at the Pinnewala elephant orphanage,
which was set up to save abandoned or
orphaned wild elephants, en route. Stay for 3
nights at the Jetwing Vil Uyana. (B)
Day 4 – Anuradhapura: Morning drive to the
ancient city of Anuradhapura, founded in the
fourth century BC. The capital of Sri Lanka
for 1,400 years, it contains fabulous Buddhist
shrines and relics. In the afternoon, make a visit
to Mihintale, where Buddhism originated in
Sri Lanka. (B)
Day 5 – Sigiriya & Polonnaruwa: Morning
visit to the rock fortress town of Sigiriya.
Continue to the 11th-century medieval capital
of Polonnaruwa, home to several magnificent
carved Buddhas. (B)
Day 6 – To Dambulla & Kandy: Morning
transfer to Kandy, stopping at Dambulla en
route to visit the rock temples. Continue
to the beautiful hill station of Kandy and
stay 2 nights at the Kandy House, a stylishly
converted old colonial mansion. Watch a
cultural performance and visit the Temple of
the Tooth in the evening. (B, L, D)
Day 7 – Kandy: Kandy is set on the shores of
a beautifully designed artificial lake and the
area abounds with rich and varied plant life.
Morning visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens.
Afternoon at leisure. (B, L, D)
Day 8 – To Bogawantalawa valley: Morning
drive to the Ceylon Tea Trails, stopping en route
at a tea plantation. Stay 3 nights at the Ceylon
Tea Trails, a collection of luxuriously converted
colonial tea planters’ bungalows. (B, L, D)
Day 9 – Horton Plains: Optional early morning
visit to Horton Plains, situated on Sri Lanka’s
highest plateau (this excursion involves a twoand-
a-half-hour walk). Now part of the Peak
Wilderness Sanctuary, Horton Plains is home
to large populations of monkeys and sambars.
The rest of the day is at leisure. (B, L, D)
Day 10 – Bogawantalawa valley: Morning
guided walk through tea plantations to see
tea pickers pluck tea, followed by a visit to a
tea factory to be shown how the leaves are
processed. Taste the different grades of brew
before returning to your bungalow. Afternoon

Day 11 – To Wadduwa: Drive to Wadduwa and
stay 3 nights at the Reef, a charming boutique
hotel. (B)
Day 12 – Wadduwa: At leisure. (B)
Day 13 – Wadduwa: At leisure. (B)
Day 14 – To London: Transfer to Colombo and
fly to London, with Sri Lankan airlines. (B)
