River Journey Through Assam

Private  |  15 Days / 13 Nights
from £3995
It is more than 50 years since the last daily passenger boat travelled from Kolkata (Calcutta) through Assam, carrying a mixed complement of tea planters, forest officers, soldiers and magistrates. The launch of the privately owned riverboats RV Charaidew and RV Sukapha has now reintroduced the experience of cruising along the magnificent Brahmaputra river. Cruising on the highest navigable reaches of the Brahmaputra reveals the unique culture of the area, including at Sibsagar, the old capital of the Ahom kings, and Majuli island, home to Hindu monastic communities known for their dance drama.

RV Charaidew is a 38-metre-long passenger boat with 12 comfortable twin-bedded upper deck cabins. All cabins are air-conditioned and have an en suite shower and lavatory. On board, facilities include a bar, sundeck and restaurant. At 40 metres long, RV Sukapha is slightly larger, but its cabins and facilities are the same.
