Day 9 – To Osian: Drive to Osian in the Thar desert. Located in the Thar Desert, the small village of Osian is a typical Rajasthani village. Osian was a great trading centre between the eighth and 12th centuries, but today it is noted for its cluster of Brahamanical and Jain temples. Using the tented camp as your base, it is possible to take a camel ride and also to visit some of the surrounding villages to uncover some of Rajasthan's most colourful communities and spectacular desert landscapes. Afternoon camel safari. Stay overnight in a tented camp. (B)
Day 10 – To Jaisalmer: Drive to Jaisalmer and stay at the Fort Rajwada Hotel for 2 nights. Jaisalmer has an extraordinary medieval feel, with golden sandstone town walls and narrow streets lined with exquisitely carved buildings. Dominating the town is the 'golden fort', so called because of the colour of the sandstone. The fort is still home to many of the town's inhabitants, who live in tiny but beautifully-decorated houses or havelis. Inside the fortified town are the Palace and the Juna Mahal, part of one of the oldest palaces in Rajasthan. The city also boasts some fascinating Jain temples. The Sam Dunes, located 42 km from Jaisalmer, mark the start of a sand sea of rolling dunes and are particularly spectacular at sunrise and sunset. (B)

Day 14 – To Udaipur: Drive to Udaipur, via Ranakpur, and stay 2 nights at Fateh Prakash Palace. Set on the shores of Lake Pichola and surrounded by hills, Udaipur is possibly the most picturesque city in Rajasthan. As capital of the old Mewar State, it was the only Rajput stronghold to uphold its Hindu allegiance in the face of Muslim invasion. From the late 16th century, peace brought about an era of renaissance in the arts and encouraged the building of beautiful palaces around the lake. Walking along the winding roads in the old city is fascinating. (B)
Day 15 – Udaipur: Morning tour of Udaipur. Afternoon boat ride on Lake Pichola. (B)
Day 16 – To London: Fly from Udaipur to London, via Mumbai (Bombay). (B)
Jungle Odyssey (Kanha National Park):
Kanha was the setting for Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book and is one of India's finest wildlife reserves. The park is home to more than 250 bird species and 30 mammal species, including tigers, leopards, gaur, sloth bears and endangered swamp deer.
