Culturally rich and extraordinarily beautiful, the Himalayan republic of Nepal offers a wealth of spectacular sights. This journey focuses on the country’s finest, combining the ancient sites of the Kathmandu valley, the mountains and valleys of the Himalaya and the jungles of Chitwan, home to the rare Bengal tiger. The tour includes an option to extend your stay with a trek through the mountain villages of the Annapurna valley.

2012 Itinerary & Prices

Day 1 – To Kathmandu: Fly overnight from London to Kathmandu, via Delhi, with Jet Airways. (N)

Day 2 – Kathmandu: Morning arrival and transfer to the Soaltee Crowne Plaza (or similar) for 2 nights. (N)

Day 3 – Kathmandu: Morning tour of Kathmandu, including Durbar Square and Swayambunath Stupa, said to be more than 2,000 years old. Afternoon drive to Bhaktapur to explore the most traditional of Nepal’s medieval cities. (B)

Day 4 – To Chitwan: Option to take a spectacular early morning mountain flight to see Mount Everest (weather permitting). After breakfast, fly to Bharatpur and transfer to Temple Tiger Jungle Lodge (or similar) for 2 nights. Chitwan, originally a hunting ground of the former royal family, is now a reserve that protects the great one-horned rhinoceros and the elusive royal Bengal tiger. Afternoon jungle walk or elephant-back safari. (B, L, D)

Day 5 – Chitwan: Early morning elephant-back safari through the dense grasslands that form a habitat for rhinoceroses, tigers and other mammals. Later, take a boat excursion looking for gharial (marsh crocodiles), fresh water dolphins, otters and a wide variety of birds. Afternoon elephant ride includes a visit to the elephant stables with a naturalist to learn about elephant behaviour. (B, L, D)

Day 6 – To Pokhara: Transfer by canoe to waiting vehicles and drive to Pokhara. Stay 2 nights at the Shangri-La Village Resort (or similar), which offers stunning views of the Annapurna range. Afternoon tour of Pokhara valley, visiting the city, new market and Tibetan camp. (B)

Day 7 – Pokhara: Morning trek to the World Peace Stupa for views over Pokhara and towards the Himalaya (weather permitting). Continue on foot to Phewa Lake for a boat ride, before returning to Pokhara. Late afternoon at leisure. (B)

Day 8 – To Kathmandu: Fly to Kathmandu. This afternoon, visit the impressive Hindu temple at Pashupatinath and return to Kathmandu via Bodhnath, the site of Nepal’s largest stupa and a religious centre for the country’s considerable Tibetan population. Overnight at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza. (B)

Day 9 – To London: Fly from Kathmandu to London, via Delhi, with Jet Airways. (B)

Private Journeys: In addition to the Escorted Group Tour departures, this itinerary may be taken at any time as a Private Journey, subject to availability.

Extensions: These include a 4-day / 3-night trek in the Annapurna mountains or an extended stay in Kathmandu. Please contact your Cox & Kings tour consultant for details.
