Country Overview

Seychelles

Overview
The Seychelles is an otherworldly archipelago of 115 idyllic islands in the Indian Ocean offering some of the most spectacular natural beauty on earth. Azure waters, pristine white beaches and friendly inhabitants make for a classic honeymoon destination. The three main islands of Mahe, Praslin and La Digue are where most of Seychelles’ hotels and guest houses are, however with a number of island resorts dotted around the archipelago the accommodation options are as unique and varied as the backdrop of islands themselves.

What to see

With an extensive network of scheduled plane and ferry services, Island hopping between the 14 islands currently offering accommodation is easy and with so much diversity on offer, knowing how to make the most of your holiday can be quite challenging.

When to go
Located in the tropics, the islands have a fairly constant temperature year round, with the highest rainfall occurring between November and February. June to October has the coolest temperatures and the lowest rainfall. Some beaches are affected by seaweed at certain times of the year. Early bookings for Christmas are recommended.

Great Experiences

Victoria market, Mahe Island

Explore the capital
Originally settled in 1778 by the French, but eventually named after Queen Victoria, at the centre of the city the clock tower, a copy of the Little Ben outside Victoria station in London, is the focal point of the city. Walk the narrow streets of the old town to see colonial buildings, Anglican and Roman Catholic cathedrals and the impressive Capuchin House. Visit the National History Museum, explore tropical gardens and go to the lively morning market where the stalls are stacked with tropical fruits, spices and freshly caught fish.

Island Hopping

Island Hopping
With a wide variety of islands, each one with its own character, history and geography, island hopping will add an unforgettable dimension to your holiday experience. Whichever islands you choose to visit there are regular flight and ferry options to cater for most itineraries.

Vallée de Mai, Seychelles

Vallée de Mai
There are numerous walking trails across Mahe and Praslin but of particular note are the trails of the legendary Vallée de Mai, one of two UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Seychelles. Soak up the tranquil atmosphere of this beautiful primeval forest that is home to the endangered black parrot, some 6,000 Coco de Mer trees, all six of the Seychelles’ endemic palm species and many other indigenous trees. Walking trails lead to a beautiful waterfall and sheltered viewpoints that look over the valley.

Snorkelling

Snorkelling
Snorkelling in the Seychelles is a highlight for any visitor. The crystal clear waters are an underwater paradise for millions of tropical fish, colourful coral reef and vibrant marine life. The best spots around Mahe are the marine parks of Ste Anne and Port Launay, Anse Soleil and Petit Anse. The best place off Praslin is Chauve Souris Island and the best spot reachable by boat from La Digue is Petite Soeur Island.

Beaches

Beaches
The Seychelles are world famous for their picture postcard beaches. There are over 65 beaches on the island of Mahé alone, where you can enjoy uncrowded white sands, framed by some of the oldest granite boulders on earth. Praslin is where you will find Anse Georgette and Anse Lazio beaches, both often listed among the world’s top ten beaches.
