Tahiti is probably best known for its rocky coastline, black sandy beaches and mountaineous interior; the attractive and bustling capital of Pape’ete also has much to offer visitors. To the west of the capital is Venus Point, where the first Europeans set foot on the island in 1767. It is overlooked by Mount Orohena, the highest point on the island.
