Taiwan: The Beautiful Island

Print-friendly

15 Days / 13 Nights from £3035 Group tour

Luxurious Lalu Hotel on Sun Moon Lake • Taroko Gorge • Overnight stay in a monastery • Breathtaking scenery

Early Portuguese sailors named Taiwan ‘Ilha Formosa’, literally meaning ‘beautiful island’, and, unsurprisingly, it is full of breathtaking scenery, exotic cultures and hospitable people. The energetic capital, Taipei, is home to possibly the best collection of Chinese art in the world, having been a refuge from the ravages of the Cultural Revolution, which ransacked China between 1966 and 1976. The countryside is perhaps the biggest surprise, with deep gorges, snow-capped mountains, hot springs, tea plantations and a beautifully rugged coastline.
