Country Overview

Burma

Overview
Burma, or Myanmar as it is now known, is one of most fascinating destinations in the Far East, untouched by mass tourism as a result of decades of isolation imposed by its military dictatorship. It is a culturally rich land with a long history and a diverse ethnic mix.

What to see

Highlights include the majestic Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangoon, the majestic temples and pagodas in ancient Pagan, the monasteries of Mandalay and the beautiful Inle Lake, famous for its floating villages and gardens and the leg-rowers of the Intha tribe. Ngapali Beach on the Bay of Bengal is an ideal place to relax and rejuvenate after the tour.

When to go
The best time to travel to Burma is from November to February, during the country's dry season, when the weather is also not too hot. It can get very hot between April and May, and the monsoon peaks between July and September.
