Visit China’s great cities, see breathtaking landscapes and discover historical treasures. The tour includes Beijing and Xian, picturesque Guilin and the Chengdu Panda Base. Travel along the Yangtze river and see the Three Gorges dam, then finish in cosmopolitan Shanghai, with options to extend to Hong Kong or Hangzhou, set on the banks of the West Lake, a short train journey from Shanghai.

2012 Itinerary & Prices

Day 1 – To Beijing: Overnight flight from London to Beijing with British Airways. (N)

Day 2 – Beijing: Arrive and transfer to the Novotel Peace for 3 nights. Afternoon visit to the Temple of Heaven. (N)

Day 3 – Old Beijing: Full-day visit to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City and take a rickshaw tour of the hutong (backstreets). End the day with a visit to Jing Shan Park for a bird’s eye view of the Forbidden City. (B, L)

Day 4 – Great Wall: Take a full-day tour of the Great Wall at Jinshanling Pass, a relatively quiet and dramatic section of the wall. (B, L)

Day 5 – To Xian: Morning visit to the Imperial Summer Palace and the Olympic Green (optional entry into the stadium, payable locally). Fly to Xian and stay at the Grand New World Hotel for 2 nights. (B)

Day 6 – Terracotta Warriors: In the morning, visit the Terracotta Warriors. Afternoon visit to the Muslim quarter and Grand Mosque. Optional evening performance of Tang dynasty music and dance with dinner (payable locally). (B, L)

Day 7 – To Guilin: Morning tour of the city wall, Wild Goose Pagoda and the Shaanxi History Museum. Afternoon visit to Hanyang Ling and fly to Guilin. Stay at the Sheraton for 2 nights. (B, L)

Day 8 – Longsheng: Full-day excursion to the rice terraces of Longsheng. Optional evening cormorant fishing show and boat tour (payable locally). (B, L)

Day 9 – Li river & Chengdu: Take a cruise down the Li river, past Guilin’s landscape of green limestone hills, fishing villages and rice fields. Late evening flight to Chengdu and transfer to the Sheraton Lido for 2 nights. (B, L)

Day 10 – Leshan: Take a full-day trip to Leshan and see one of China’s most amazing sights, the world’s largest Buddha statue. In the afternoon, return to the city and visit the ancient Jinli Street. Optional evening performance of Sichuan opera (payable locally). (B, L)

Day 11 – To Chongqing: Morning visit to the Chengdu Panda Base. This afternoon, transfer by train to Chongqing on the Yangtze river. Board the Victoria Selina for a 3-night cruise to Yichang. (B, L, D)

Day 12 – Yangtze: Full-day cruising the upper reaches of the Yangtze with a morning excursion to Fengdu. (B, L, D)

Day 13 – Yangtze: Full-day cruise passing through the Three Gorges, with an excursion up the Daning river tributary. The cliffs here stretch up to 1,200 metres high and are hugely impressive. This evening, pass through the ship locks. (B, L, D)

Day 14 – To Shanghai: Morning visit to the vast Three Gorges dam. Disembark and fly to Shanghai for a 2-night stay at the Howard Johnson Plaza. (B, L)

Day 15 – Shanghai: Morning tour of Shanghai, including the Jade Buddha Temple, Yu Yuan Garden and the Bund. Optional evening visit to the State Acrobatics show (payable locally). (B, L)

Day 16 – To London: Morning transfer to the airport and fly back to London with British Airways. (B)

Accessibility: The tour involves some long walks and climbing steps, and therefore requires a good level of fitness.
