Day 1: Fly to Rangoon via Bangkok Fly from London to Rangoon, via Bangkok, with Thai Airways. (N)

Day 2: Rangoon Arrive in Rangoon and transfer to the Belmond Governor’s Residence for 2 nights. (N)

Day 3: Rangoon Half-day shared excursion of Rangoon, including its colonial buildings, Sule Pagoda, Kandawgyi lake and the Shwedagon pagoda. (B)

Day 4: Fly to Mandalay Early morning flight to Mandalay. On arrival, transfer to the Belmond Road to Mandalay for a 7-night cruise on the Irrawaddy river. Afternoon tour of Mandalay, regarded as the centre of Burmese culture and Buddhist learning. (B, L, D)

Day 5: Irrawaddy river After an early breakfast, visit a local village for a walking tour. The ship journeys south in the morning. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Pagan Morning arrival in Pagan, where more than 2,000 temples and pagodas are scattered over a plain beside the river. Spend the full day on a tour of the temples. (B, L, D)

Day 7: Mount Popa Full-day excursion to Mount Popa, home of powerful and sacred nats (spirits). (B, L, D)

Day 8: Pagan Optional sunrise balloon ride over Pagan (October to March only – book in advance). After breakfast, join the guide to explore some of Pagan’s local markets and a lacquerware factory. Alternatively, hire a bicycle or horse-drawn cart and explore this enchanting area on your own. Mid-morning, the ship sets sail for Mandalay. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Mingun Continue sailing up the river this morning. After lunch, visit the enormous pagoda in Mingun. (B, L, D)

Day 10: Maymyo (Pyin Oo Lwin) Visit Maymyo, a colonial hill station set high in the mountains. Soak up the atmosphere with its cool climate, English-style houses, colourful market and beautiful botanical gardens. (B, L, D)

Day 11: Fly to Rangoon In the morning, disembark the cruise and fly to Rangoon for an overnight stay at the Belmond Governor’s Residence. (B)

Day 12: Fly to London via Bangkok Afternoon transfer to the airport and fly back to London via Bangkok. (B)

Day 13: London Morning arrival. (N)

Belmond Road to Mandalay 
The Belmond Road to Mandalay is a de luxe river cruiser with 43 en suite cabins, air-conditioned and furnished in traditional Burmese style, with five cabin sizes and categories available. Facilities include a swimming pool, observation deck, restaurant, piano bar, fitness room and spa treatments. A range of cruise programmes and durations are available between Pagan and Mandalay, as well as an itinerary to the sublime gorges of Bhamo. The Belmond sister ship, the Orcaella, is also available.
