Located on the banks of the Ottawa river, directly opposite Parliament Hill, the Canadian Musuem of History presents over 20,000 years of Canada's pre-history, history and culture. The museum consists of two main wings, surrounded by a series of plazas. There are three permanent exhibition galleries: the Grand Hall, the First Peoples Hall and the Canada Hall, with additional special exhibitions covering, for example, the 19th-century gold rush in British Columbia's Fraser Canyon, or the founding of Canada as a nation.
